Applying for work

Why your applications get no reply

Sometimes it is the employer. More often it is one of four things you can fix this afternoon.

Silence after applying is the most common complaint jobseekers have, and it is usually not personal.

You applied to everything

Employers can tell when a CV has not been changed for the role. Applying to forty jobs badly is worse than applying to eight well.

Your CV does not mention the thing they asked for

If the advert says QuickBooks and your CV says “accounting software”, somebody scanning forty CVs will not make the connection for you. Use their words wherever they are true of you.

You are outside the salary range

Every job on Citadel publishes one. If you ask for well above the top of it without explaining why, you are usually filtered out before anyone reads further.

The employer went quiet

It happens, and it is why Citadel emails you at every stage change. If an employer has moved you to shortlisted or rejected, you will know. If you have heard nothing at all, the application has not been opened yet.
